Eastern Bays
Sustainable Garden Trail

Next date TBA

Join us in our second year of the Eastern Bays Sustainable Garden Trail

After a successful first trail, we look forward to the 2024 trail and hope to see you there: 24 - 25 Feb!

Inspired by the Taranaki Sustainable Backyard Trail & the Northland Edible Garden Trail, we launched Tāmaki Makaurau’s first Sustainable Garden Trail in February 2023.

Once again some of The Bays’ most sustainable gardens will be open to visit. From a tiny retirement village garden bursting with colour, to a quarter-acre haven for all living things, whatever the space, it can be adapted to provide kai, wellbeing and a habitat for wildlife.

For just $2/garden, cash only, come and enjoy these beautiful spaces and get tips for creating an easy-care, sustainable garden, full of food for your community, and flowers that help sustain bees and other beneficial insects.

Regenerative gardens for wellbeing, wildlife and kai

The Eastern Bays Sustainable Garden Trail is a two-day event, opening a series of local, regenerative gardens, to the public. You'll get a glimpse into what local gardeners are already doing, and find tips on how to help combat climate change and to create a garden bursting with food, wildlife and wellbeing.

Our world is changing. What isn’t changing is the need to feel connected to each other and our place

Nothing gives us this sense of security and well-being like an abundant garden full of life and food for all beings. What child doesn’t thrill to encounter nature face to face: that first experience of taste straight from the soil, a strawberry here, a cherry tomato there, the first juicy sweetcorn on the barbie, a weta tucked up in a hotel on the tree, a nest in the hedge tweeting the promise of spring. A sunflower buzzing with bumblebees. The web of life speaks to us, calls to us to participate, shouts out our belonging and rewards us with taste, smells, sounds and touch.

The Eastern Bays Sustainable Garden Trail will showcase and share learning on how to create your very own abundant paradise just outside your door.
